Our investment performance FY23-24
Our CEO and CIO, Debby Blakey and Sonya Sawtell-Rickson, share our 2023-24 financial year performance and a market recap.
Rod came to financial services in 2002 after working in the hospitality industry. Since then, he has worked in lending and insurance environments at both finance and banking companies.
“Most people don’t have a grasp on superannuation. Often people think their employer puts money in there, and they can contribute. But they have no idea what happens when they retire. They don’t understand their options. I really like helping people understand it,” he says.
When you meet Rod, you can be sure of one thing: non-judgemental and objective advice that’s tailored to you.
“When I meet with a member, we’ll have a conversation about what they’re trying to achieve. I think the conversation is the most important aspect, to really understand how you want your life to look. It shouldn’t be focussed on numbers. You can leave that to me in the background!”
Helping people work towards their ideal retirement is gratifying, says Rod.
“I recently met with a lovely couple who were interested in our Transition to Retirement product. They were hoping to increase their superannuation while they transitioned fully to retirement in a few years. By implementing a strategy, we decreased their potential tax by $10,501 and boosted their super by $5,770 in the first year alone, without them having to reduce their take-home pay or use their own savings outside of super.”
With a Bachelor of Business (Financial Planning), Rod was drawn to HESTA and what it stood for.
“Who wouldn’t want to support health and community services? I’m passionate about helping this industry. It’s really nice to be able to offer our members advice that can really help them."
