Jesuit Social Services is a finalist in the Unsung Hero category of the 2018 HESTA Community Sector Awards.
For 41 years, Jesuit Social Services has been working to build a just society. A particular focus of their work has been standing up for the rights of young people who have been or are at risk of being involved in the justice system.
Recently they launched the ‘Worth a Second Chance’ campaign which promotes improved youth justice policy and positive community attitudes by sharing the stories of young people and their experiences with the justice system. This campaign was well received by the public and was covered by high profile media outlets such as Seven News and ABC Radio.
Another focus has been The Men’s Project. Recognising that males are more susceptible to higher levels of substance abuse, mental health issues, violence, and radicalisation, Jesuit Social Services developed ‘The Men’s Project’ to reduce violent and harmful behaviours by males and support them in improving their own wellbeing and relationships with their families.
Through their work Jesuit Social Services continues to develop and cement partnerships across organisations, communities and individuals to ensure better outcomes in youth and adult justice.
