Noelene is a finalist in the Unsung Hero category of the 2018 HESTA Community Sector Awards.

Noelene is recognised for aiding families experiencing crisis and for educating and empowering women to make a change. As the manager of One Tree Community Services' Laverton Crisis Intervention Service (LCIS), she helps provide a safe haven for women and children who are experiencing Family and Domestic Violence (FDV). Aside from her full-time role, she also volunteers as a St John Ambulance first aid responder and driver, often as the only volunteer available in town. 

Noelene is immersed in the community to ensure they understand ways to deal with FDV issues, all while establishing a collaborative and positive approach with services and agencies, like the local police. She has played an instrumental role in the development of the Laverton Women’s Group which provides weekly sessions to women as an opportunity to discuss difficult issues in a safe space. 

Noelene has also supported programs such as the Kungka Group which helps girls between the ages of 8-16 learn about respectful relationships, safety, building confidence and self-esteem. Noelene’s work in Laverton has had a dramatic impact on the lives of women in the LCIS and the broader community.
