Beryl Women Inc. from Dickson, ACT is a finalist in the 2019 HESTA Community Sector Awards.
Beryl Women Inc is recognised for its work supporting women and children escaping domestic violence. Beryl provides short term, low-cost crisis housing to women and their children who are homeless due to domestic violence.
Over 110 clients are supported annually by Beryl Women Inc, which is the longest-running specialist domestic violence refuge in Australia. Robyn Martin is a Kamilaroi woman and has managed Beryl Women Inc for over 15 years. During this time, she has developed strong ties with the local Aboriginal community, helping to foster reconciliation and ensure the stories of Aboriginal women are heard and acknowledged.
Former clients say that without the support provided by Beryl their outcome would be very different. Beryl’s mission is to help women and children escape and heal from the trauma of domestic violence. Beryl Women Inc plans to expand to meet the increasing demand for its services.
