Theresa Mitchell of Agape Outreach Inc. in Tweed Heads, NSW is finalist in the 2019 HESTA Community Sector Awards.
Theresa Mitchell is recognised for founding and developing Agape Outreach Inc. which provides meals for over 10,000 people experiencing financial hardship and homelessness each year across Tweed Heads, Byron Bay and the Gold Coast.
With the help of 90 volunteers, Agape provides up to 200 meals and 120 food hampers per week to people in need. Under Theresa’s leadership, Agape have now secured a permanent residence where the homeless can access shower and washing facilities, case management to assist in sourcing emergency and long-term accommodation, life coaching for emotional support and life skills ranging from budgeting to becoming a barista.
Theresa’s kindness, compassion and practical care has changed many people’s lives. She has fostered 37 children and cared for over 100 international students in her home. As an advocate for the homeless and disadvantaged, Theresa has raised awareness and funds to help those living on the streets in her community.
