Join us in honouring Australia's best nurses and midwives
The search is underway to find Australia's most exceptional nurses and midwives with nominations now open for the 2025 HESTA Australian Nursing & Midwifery Awards.
The awards – now in its 18th year – honour the vital contributions made by Australia’s nurses, midwives, nurse educators, researchers, and personal care workers, who improve health outcomes for those in our community through exemplary care and support.
HESTA CEO Debby Blakey expressed her heartfelt thanks to all the hardworking nurses and midwives around the country and has called on Australians – especially patients, colleagues and employers – to nominate a standout healthcare professional or organisation.
“Nurses and midwives consistently demonstrate extraordinary skills and empathy often under extremely challenging circumstances. Their commitment to patient care is inspiring, and we owe them a great deal of gratitude for what they do every day,” Ms Blakey said.
“I encourage anyone who works with or has benefitted from the care of an incredible nurse, midwife, or organisation to take the time to nominate them for their leadership, innovation and pursuit of excellence.”
Returning as a proud sponsor of the awards, ME (a subsidiary of Bank of Queensland – BOQ) is generously contributing a $30,000 prize pool, which will be split equally between the winners of the three categories – Nurse of the Year, Midwife of the Year, and Outstanding Organisation.
BOQ Group Executive of Retail Banking Greg Boyle said the bank was proud to support the awards.
“ME is proud to back awards that celebrate the remarkable efforts of Australia’s nurses and midwives. Their role is crucial in moulding the healthcare landscape, guaranteeing optimal care and opportunities for our community members,” Mr Boyle said.
The finalists will be announced in April 2025, with the winners revealed at a special ceremony in Melbourne in May 2025.
Nominations can be made via the HESTA website until 15 December 2024.
The 2024 HESTA Australian Nursing & Midwifery winners included Midwife of the Year, Skye Stewart from Red Nose Australia in Victoria, Nurse of the Year Cathy Halmarick from Peninsula Health in Victoria, and Outstanding Organisation The Healthy Communities Foundation Australia from New South Wales.
